About Juan Pablo
Juan Pablo was born in the Colombian Andes, between the mountains, from there, his passion for climbing, looking for the remote and unknown. His work is characterized by having a wide versatility. Cinematographic projects of atmospheric narratives in little-explored places, are mixed with the frenzy and adrenaline of the extreme and are in the middle with more dynamic and “politically correct” commercial projects.
He often explores and reinterprets the mystique of remote places, usually threatened by large corporations that exploit natural resources, by armed groups or by development that brings about the forgetting of ancestral knowledge, language and oral tradition. He is interested in building parallel realities, usually very similar to everyday life, playing with the perception of everyday life and the existence of the human who inhabits these spaces.
His work in advertising has focused mostly on moving projects, athletes and cars that move through complex and atmospheric environments, as well as a game with humour and the spontaneity of the actors that have allowed him to work for multiple brands such as Coca Cola, Renault, Visa, Bavaria, General Motors, Alpina, Pfizer, Cadbury Adams, Claro, Movistar and Pepsico among others. Here he has also been selected in important competitions among which are Cannes Lions, Clio Awards, Effie, El sol, or the Ojo de Iberoamérica, where he received the award for Best Director in Local Performance in 2014.
He is currently in post-production of two short films « The Secret Life of Trees, » a critique of Eco-Tourism shot in the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, and « Lotte » made in the city of Berlin under a guerilla filmmaking scheme. He also develops his feature film “Biscura, La Morenita de las Montañas”, an atmospheric story around a mysterious pre-Hispanic painting hidden high in the eastern Andes of Colombia.
